What Is Chiropractic ?

Chiropractors believe that it is natural and normal for you to be healthy and chiropractic emphasizes the inherent ability of the body to heal itself.

Chiropractors look at drugs and surgery as a last resort, not the initial approach to healing.

The chiropractic approach to better health is to locate and help remove interferences to your natural state of being healthy.

Modern chiropractic is not simply about putting bones back into place. Chiropractors adjust and mobilize the bones of the body to restore proper joint and spinal mechanics.

When an adjustment is given, built up pressure is released and some degree of motion is restored to the particular area. Some patients will feel immediate, though temporary relief.

It is easy to understand how this relief could be taken to mean "cure." However, this is usually the first step in a process which takes time and consistent effort to repair.

Most patients find that periodic chiropractic checkups help keep them in tip-top shape. Those who are active, have stressful jobs, or want to be their very best, find that a schedule of preventative visits are helpful in the maintenance of good health.

What Was That 'Pop'?

During the adjustment, the low back has undergone quick and gentle stretching of the spinal joint. The patient may hear a cracking or popping noise as the joint is opened. Research has proved that small pockets of air or bubbles are found in the tissue fluid surrounding a joint capsule. When the joint tissues are stretched during a chiropractic adjustment, the pockets of air 'pop' creating a cracking sound.
